Android 15 Beta: What’s New, Features and Changes

The Android 15 beta is here and Google has loaded it with lots of new features, improvements and tools to make devices more user friendly, adaptable to new hardware and focused on privacy.

Android 15 Features

  1. Private Space for Sensitive Data : Android 15 introduces Private Space where you can lock certain apps and files behind additional authentication. Just like on other Android skins like ColorOS, Private Space will hide sensitive information—photos, videos, documents—so they won’t show up in app drawers or multitasking screens.
  2. System Wide Keyboard Vibration Toggle : In the past you had to go to specific keyboard settings to adjust keyboard vibrations. Android 15 has a centralized toggle for this and a slider to control the vibration intensity. This will make haptic feedback more customizable across different keyboards.
  3. Haptic Feedback for Brightness Control : Google is adding subtle vibration feedback to the brightness slider. It’s a small but nice change that makes the interface feel more responsive.
  4. Partial Screen Recording : You can now record only a part of your screen. This will allow you to record individual apps without showing notifications or other content on the screen. This is useful for professionals and content creators who want more privacy and control when sharing screen recordings.
  5. Better Bluetooth Controls : Android 15 improves Bluetooth management with a new quick tile. Instead of just toggling Bluetooth on or off, you can now quickly view paired devices or switch between them. This is similar to what Samsung’s One UI offers.
  6. Optimized for Foldables and Tablets : Android 15 brings better multitasking and continuity for foldables. For example, actions performed on the main screen of a foldable phone will now continue on the cover screen. You can also save app combinations in split-screen mode so multitasking is more efficient.
  7. New Performance and Power Optimization Tools : Android 15 introduces the Dynamic Performance Framework which gives developers more control over hardware resources. It also has a new power saving mode to manage background tasks more efficiently so battery life is better on devices with demanding apps.

Security and Privacy

  1. Remote Lock and SIM Card Protection : The update has Remote Lock, a feature integrated with Google’s Find My Device service. Removing a SIM card or disabling Find My Device now requires authentication so unauthorized access is prevented in case of theft.
  2. Smoother Animations : Google has also smoothed out system animations so navigation is smoother across the interface. Devices with high-refresh-rate screens will benefit from this the most, making the experience more seamless and pretty.

Camera and Webcam Modes

If you use video calling, Android 15 has a high quality (HQ) webcam mode that uses the main camera to improve video quality in apps like Zoom and Google Meet. This is to make remote communication better and more professional.

Devices and Release Date

The Android 15 beta is out for Google Pixel devices, including the Pixel 8 series. Other manufacturers will get it soon. The final release is a few months away but the beta gives you a taste of what’s to come and sets the stage for new hardware, tablets and foldables.

Summary

Android 15 is a solid update with actual changes that improve usability, performance and security. With better multitasking, more haptic feedback and refined privacy tools it’s for both casual users and professionals. As foldables and tablets become more common, Android 15 sets the stage for future mobile innovation.

Try out Android 15 now as a beta update for select devices like Google’s Pixel phones. The stable release will bring all this to more users soon.
