The M4 MacBooks have been generating a lot of buzz with rumors of an October 2024 announcement. This includes updates to the MacBook Pro, Mac mini and iMac lines all with the new M4 chip. But the MacBook Air will follow in early 2025.
M4 Chip Features
The M4 chip will bring big performance improvements over the M3. It will likely have better energy efficiency, faster processing and support for features like ray tracing. Ray tracing is used in high end gaming for better light processing so Apple is clearly wanting to up the gaming ante on their devices. Another improvement will be in AI based tasks using “Apple Intelligence” which will boost machine learning across all apps.

Upcoming MacBook Pro and Air
Leaks say Apple will announce the new MacBook Pro with M4 chip in late October 2024 with availability starting November 1. The Pro models won’t have major design changes from the M3 but the M4 chip will bring big performance upgrades with a 10 core CPU and GPU making the new Pro a pro machine.
As for the Air, production is starting soon with a rumored early 2025 launch. The Air models will stick to the same design but will get the M4 chip and thus better battery life and overall performance.
Supply Chain and Leaks
One of the most surprising things about this launch is the number of devices leaking out. Multiple sources are reporting up to 200 M4 MacBook Pro units are already in the black market. Tech enthusiasts are seeing unboxing videos and they confirm the new chip and reveal more specs.
In summary Apple’s M4 MacBooks will be a big performance upgrade for creatives and gamers. Announcement should be in late October and devices should be available soon after. As we get into 2025 more M4 devices including the Air and other products will hit the market.
